Metal detecting Weston-super-Mare Beach
Weston-super-Mare
15th March 2024
Only my third time out with the Minelab Equinox 700 metal detector, so Im still sticking to the local beaches to try and hone my skills before heading out into muddy fields.
This time out I decided to change venues and visited Weston-super-Mare Beach.
We have been having a lot of rain recently and some really high spring tides that I had hoped. might have worn away some of
the sand and potentially uncover more items to find.
I started off detecting fairly close to the see wall which I thought the sand might have been slightly lower than normal.
Unfortunately this was not the case and as I moved along the wall it became apparent that there was actually more sand which
was higher than normal.
Digging a few different holes only yielded the normal foil and can parts that have discarded by beach goers rather than disposing of their trash.
Eventually I changed tact and moved further down the beach to the sinking mud signs.
This proved a little more successful with the find of an old penny and a tent peg which now wont impale anyone paddling or swimming in the sea this summer.
It was very windy and on the odd occasion when my DJI Mic 2 didn't connect properly to the DJI Action 4 camera the difference in sound
quality on the video was astonishing.
One interesting thing about running two camera's today, is that when the DJI Action Remote is in single camera mode
the camera still falls asleep and the remote can wake it up.
However when running in two camera mode with the remote controlling both cameras they did not go into the normal standby mode and therefore the battery life
was severely decreased. Hopefully DJI will change this in future firmware revisions to make the remote control of more use to customers.
The Minelab Pro-Find 35 pin pointer that I got free with the Equinox 700 once proved to be temperamental in usage even when
operating the unit exactly as recommended by Minelab.
This is a little disappointing as they have a good reputation for quality products, but I have found many other people
on the internet that have experienced the same problems and ultimately moved to a different pin pointer.
I am going to stick mine for a little while longer before thinking of replacing it, but I am open to suggestions on different pin pointers so I can do some research.
The video came out way longer than I had anticipated it too and I also need to get my PowerDirector editing skills up to speed to make for better viewing.
