Buying a metal detecting harness
Which metal detecting harness to buy?
So after some serious aches and pains after practicing my swing with my new metal detector, it is apparent I need additional help/support
to continue my journey into metal detecting.
So the biggest question now is which metal detecting harness to buy and how much to spend?
Having already nearly breaking the bank on the purchase of the detector and other items, price was a priority high on the list.
As all bar one harness where nearly the same design I was surprised at the difference in the price that retailers were charging. Some were around the
£30 mark right up to £65 for nearly exactly the same thing.
Watching some further videos on YouTube and also the promotional material, I noticed that although that most appeared to help distribute the weight of the metal detector they also tended to look a bit
lop sided with the weight and potentially uncomfortable and additional strain on the shoulder.
I then stumbled upon a Minelab Pro-Swing 45 harness video in which it did not appear to sag to one side when properly adjusted.
The main difference with the Minelab harness is the addition of a bar to support the shoulder strap which also helps distribute the weight to the back.
Whilst impressed with the design and build quality that the Pro-Swing 45 seemed to have over the cheaper alternatives it did have one hefty drawback, it's price
Searching around the web I was unable to find any discounts or pricing differences as all where around the £109 price mark, which is quite bit above the competition.
After pondering over it for a day or so, I decided to go ahead and purchase the Minelab Pro-Swing 45 mainly because Minelab have a good reputation for quality and I am pleased with
the Equinox 700 metal detector I had already purchased.
So a day later the harness arrived and once again I was not disappointed.
Minelab seem to have put a lot of thought into the practicality and comfort of the Pro-Swing 45 and its very easy to setup and adjust.
After another couple of practice sessions at home with no reoccurrence of any aches or pains it was time to take a trip out to Uphill Beach, Weston-super-Mare and put it to a real life test.
I had to adjust the harness a couple of times due to wearing a jacket, but the fit was good and comfortable. I only had to detect for 3 hours, but did not
experience any discomfort and the detector was so easy to connect and disconnect when digging holes.
All in all I think the Minelab harness was worth spending the extra money and so far cannot fault it in any way other than price.
