My detecting journey begins

Metal detecting has become more popular recently due to TV programmes and reports of valuable finds in the news.

I have been intrigued with metal detecting and what metal detectorists find since spending some time whilst on holiday as a child with my now late uncle on the beaches around Norfolk where he frequently detected.
Getting older and experiencing mental health problems I was in need of a new hobby which allowed me to be on my own and focus on something with the opportunity to also partake and interact with others when I feel like it.

Watching some YouTube videos from detectorists from around my local area of Somerset I soon decided metal detecting was worth a go and after much research I decided to purchase the following pieces of metal detecting equipment to start my adventure:

  • Minelab Equinox 700 metal detector which came with a free Minelab Pro-Find 35 pinpointer
  • Minelab digging tool
  • emiteR Sand Scoop 200
  • CMD Camo finds pouch
As you may well have noticed I have yet to buy a shovel as I decided to go with a sand scoop for the time being.
Living in close proximity to the beaches at Weston-super-Mare, Uphill, Brean and Burnham-on-Sea I have decided to initially hone my skills on the beach before looking for a permission to detect on.

I have joined some great local Facebook groups for the people that I learned a great deal from by watching their YouTube channels. So many thanks to the following:

  • Somerset detectorists
  • Somerset Searchers
  • Deano Detects
I will endeavour to add more helpful information to the links page in due coarse.
